Description
Savory Ground Beef or Savory Beef Mince is a childhood favorite of mine. Not only is it
delicious and versatile it is a great budget helper.
Ingredients
1-2 tablespoons olive oil
2 lbs lean ground beef
1 cup diced onion
1 cup diced carrot
1 cup diced celery
1 cup chopped white cabbage
2 tablespoons tomato paste
2 teaspoons dark soy sauce
2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
3 - 5 cubes beef bouillon (enough to flavor 4 -5 cups liques)
Salt & Pepper to taste (I Use about 1 ½ to 2 teaspoons Kosher salt and 1 teaspoon black
pepper)
4 - 4½ cups water or stock
Cornstarch (To make a slurry) ½ cup cornstarch and ½ cold water
Instructions
In a heavy bottom pan over medium heat add enough olive oil to coat the bottom of the
pan. Add diced onion, carrot, celery and cabbage, add a pinch or 2 of Kosher salt and saute
for 10 minutes or until onions are translucent. Add ground beef, sprinkle with about ½
teaspoon Kosher salt and black pepper and saute till browned. When beef is browned add
tomato paste, soy sauce, worcestershire sauce and beef boullion and mix. Add enough beef
stock or water to just cover and bring to a boil. Reduce heat source to a simmer, cover and
allow to simmer for 1 hour or until ground beef and vegetables are tender. Adjust seasoning
to taste and thicken with slurry to desired thickness.
